An Overview of Motorcycle camping trailers

from:

Motorcycle riders are a special kind of traveller – one who prefers to ride the road and feel the changes in the air rather than observe everything from behind a car window. While many motorcycles allow for significant storage space, motorcycles are definitely a way to travel light. But if you are a motorcycle rider who’s been hauling traditional tents or camping gear around on your bike, then you haven’t seen all of the possibilities for motorcycle travel. Motorcycle camping trailers let you take the convenience of a trailer without losing the freedom that comes from travelling on a bike.

Motorcycle camping trailers are essentially a tent in a box. That box opens up and the tent ‘pops up’ out of the box. It unfolds into a camper that is roomy enough for 2 or more people to sleep comfortably. Depending on the style, motorcycle camping trailers often even have inflatable mattresses. Plus, many models have additional pieces that you can attach in order to provide even more living space. The additional pieces include things such as tables or screened in porch type areas. But probably one of the nicest features of motorcycle camping trailers is that sleeping space, as well as some of the additional living space, depending on the model, is kept clean and dry above the ground.

You can customize motorcycle camping trailers by adding a number of features when you order it. If you truly prefer the creature comforts and you have a portable air conditioner, then the trailer can be designed with an air vent that will let all the cool air in. Or, you can add a cooler package, which in some models actually sits just behind the hitch, so you can keep your food and beverages fresh and cool and easy to access. If you want some shade where you camp, awnings are often available so you can set up some cool outdoor space as well. In fact, many motorcycle camping trailers have both internal storage space as well as a luggage rack that can hold any additional equipment or gear you might need. You can even customize other features such as color, style, and even hubcabs or rims on your trailer so that is fits in with the rest of your bike.

Of course, the weight of motorcycle camping trailers is an important consideration. You’ll need to know what your bike can safely tow. Then you’ll want to consider the weight of the rider or riders, the weight of any motorcycle camper trailers you are considering, and the weight of the gear you want to bring. Remember that the additional weight will also change your gas consumption, something you’ll want to calculate in your trip costs.
